Lily Allen and Piers Morgan had a massive feud on Twitter over a necklace

She told Piers Morgan “I’ll stop wearing the necklace when you apologise for hacking the phones of dead children.”

LILY ALLEN’S BEEN making plenty of headlines in the weeks leading up to the release of her album ‘No Shame’. The latest story she’s involved in, is a row with Piers Morgan on Twitter over a necklace.

To understand what’s going on we have to go back to some of last week’s events. You might have spotted the whole Raheem Sterling mess on the news or on Twitter, but if not, here’s some background:

English footballer Raheem Sterling has faced a ridiculous amount of abuse online and in newspapers over the last week, after he revealed a tattoo of a gun on his leg.

The 23-year-old Manchester City forward defended the tattoo on Instagram, by explaining:

When I was 2, my father died from being gunned down to death. I made a promise to myself I would never touch a gun in my lifetime. I shoot with my right foot, so it has a deeper meaning.

He also added that the tattoo was unfinished.

The tattoo makes complete sense to Raheem, but it has managed to upset quite a few commentators (unsurprisingly, many of which are the type of people who accuse others of being easily offended snowflakes). People were calling for Sterling to be removed from the England team ahead of the World Cup.

Gary Lineker, and many others,  said that the persecution of this “terrific footballer” was disgusting.

So, what’s this got to do with Lily Allen and Piers Morgan?

Piers Morgan, was one of the most vocal critics of Sterling’s tattoo last week. He was involved in an argument with Gary Lineker last week, where Gary pointed out that Piers Morgan’s favourite football team (Arsenal) had a logo featuring a cannon and a name that means “a collection of weapons and military equipment”.

Lineker then asked if Arsenal should be renamed, if guns and weapons are that offensive. Piers piped down a bit after that.

Then, yesterday afternoon, the Daily Mail wrote an article about an AK-47 necklace that Lily Allen wore on stage at a London festival.

A Twitter user said “Now, let’s see if Good Morning Britain go after Lily Allen like they did Raheem Sterling.”

Lily then added that she had been wearing the necklace for ten years, and had not received as much stick for doing so as Raheem did with his tattoo.

And then Piers Morgan came back. He wrote:

Doesn’t make it any less reprehensible the longer you wear it. Why have you got a machine gun around your neck?

Lily did not hold back in her response.

We suppose you could say… Shots fired. The singer later tweeted that Piers Morgan should spend more time lobbying “his mates who could do something about cuts to policing and youth services” than provoking the likes of her and Raheem Sterling.
